Well this coffee needs no introduction. Felipe was the winner of the 2020 Colombian Cup of Excellence with his Chiroso coffee variety from Los Tres Mosquetereos farm. HIs coffee scored 90.3 points and earned the competitions only presidential prize. Felipe along with his brothers Jorge and Leo (The Three Musketeers).
Felipe is originally from Tolima region and the 1st generation of coffee growers in his family. He started to get involved in coffee when he was 16 years old as his brother was working for a coffee exporter at that time so Felipe would go with him and visit some coffee producers in different regions.
This wonderful coffee is grown in Urrao, Antioquia. Could this coffee plant variety be better than a Geisha? Physically the Chrioso coffee tree looks like a Caturra tree but the beans are quite long like a bourbon variety. The Chiroso variety whilst still not widely known became popular in Felipe's region Urrao, Antioquia when Carmer Montoya won the Cup of Excellence in 2014.
In Colombia, the Farmers call Caturra Chiroso the small tress and Bourbon Chiroso the taller type of tree. However, according to Dr Montagnon, Direct de RD2 vision, Chiroso is an "Ethiopian Landrace" just like a Geisha variety.
