Dongka produces some of the best coffees in the Menglian region, but to date, volumes of these standout coffees have been small. The washing station is managed by Mr Li and his family who have been involved in coffee growing and production for over 20 years.
This is the first year that our import partners Indochina coffee have brought this coffee to the UK. Indochina have worked with their local origin partner: Yunnan Coffee Traders on the ground in China. Yunnan Coffee Traders operate farming and milling research, as well as run training facilities. Its mission is three-fold; to create opportunities for Yunnan farmers to engage in sustainable production practices, employ industry best-practices for sourcing, processing, wholesaling, and exporting coffees as well as supplying coffee to importers and roasters who care about sustainability, traceability, and transparency.
Coffee was first cultivated in China in the late 1800s on a small scale. The focus on specialty is relatively recent, with the past decade seeing smaller coffee farms and producers improving their knowledge and skills e.g. processing techniques to produce better quality coffee.
