The coffee comes from the Alur Highlands of north-western Uganda. It's a border area, to the immediate west is DR Congo, to the north, South Sudan. It is hilly but not mountainous, a plateau of altitude 1,350 to 1,700 metres. The Alur people speak a Nilotic language, unrelated to the Bantu language group of the majority of sub-Saharan Africa. Most of the people in Ituri Province of DRC are also Alur, and there are strong cross-border family relationships. The White Nile river is a few kms to the south-east.
