A Valentine’s Day Coffee from the Highlands of Peru
by Carnival Coffee Roasters
Some love stories are loud and flashy.
Others grow slowly, quietly, and beautifully — rooted in care, patience, and deep respect for nature. La Danta is very much the second kind.
And honestly? That’s our favourite type. 💕
High in the northern Andes of Cajamarca, Peru, misty mountains roll into lush valleys dotted with small family coffee farms. This is Peru’s largest coffee-producing region — and one of its most magical.
Here, coffee isn’t just grown.
It’s passed down.
Many of the farms behind La Danta were established in the 1980s by grandparents who believed in coffee long before it paid the bills. Today, new generations are building on that legacy — blending tradition with curiosity, workshops, better processing, and a shared belief that caring for nature makes better coffee.
La Danta is named after the Andean Tapir — known locally in Quechua as sacha huagra, the “mountain Danta.”
A gentle, endangered giant that roams the highlands of northern Cajamarca, the tapir is a symbol of coexistence between farming and wild nature.
This coffee celebrates exactly that:
🌱 farming that protects ecosystems
🤝 communities growing stronger together
☕ coffee that tastes better because it’s grown with intention
Basically… the greenest love letter we could think of.
La Danta is a collection of community coffees lots from San Ignacio and Jaén, produced by smallholder farmers who prioritise quality, sustainability, and long-term thinking.
